Classical Chinese Medical Theory explains that human beings have a natural flow of energy through the body called Qi, and that pain and disease are caused by an imbalance or a blockage of this Vital Energy or Qi. The goal of Classical Chinese Medicine is to help restore harmony to the flow of vital energy, and thus to return the body to a healthy state.
